Rotary Environmental Action Coastal Team

As an elected Town Council official for the Town of St. James, I gained a lot of insight into the recycling industry as we were researching whether or not to renew our recycling contract with GFL.  Over the course of six months, I scoured the Internet for as much material as possible to guide my reasoning and logic, only to find that recycling is complicated, messy, and confusing.  You can click here to see the research listing web page I put together for the Town.  On a March Zoom meeting for the Rotary Innovative Club Advocates Committee, I realized that creating a club with an environmental focus is a natural. This club would have passionate advocates in the areas of coastal land management, recycling educational outreach, and beach cleanups.  With environmental concern as the core, we can actively engage members in ways we may have never thought about, as well as provide opportunities to work with students from grade school through college.  If we have realized anything about Rotary's influence in the world since 1906, it is that we are stronger when we collectively work together.  Jeff Mount, South Brunswick Islands club, District Governor 2022-2023
